NRM leaders from Bukoto Central have endorsed President Yoweri Museveni for 2016.

The decision to back Museveni as a sole NRM candidate for 2016 polls was reached during consultative meetings that the area MP and Vice President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi held in three sub counties—Kyesiiga, Kyanamukaka and Kabonero over the weekend.

According to a statement from State House, Ssekandi said that: “endorsing President Museveni as a sole candidate will go a long way in consolidating unity and cohesion within the party and also boast the trust and confidence Ugandans have in the President and NRM leadership across the country.”

The endorsement comes at a time when a section of NRM lawmakers are traversing their constituencies to explain the Kyankwanzi resolutions to their voters.

NRM said that their MPs would be combing the villages to explain the Kyankwanzi resolutions in groups in order to allow Parliament to continue with work.

In February this year, the NRM parliamentary caucus meeting at Kyankwanzi endorsed President Museveni to stand unopposed for the party presidency in 2016.

The proposal was made by Northern Youth MP Evelyn Anite and it was seconded by MPs John Simbwa (Makindye East), Hatwib Katooto (Katerera) and the deputy Minister for Karamoja, Barbara Oundo Nekesa.

A statement from State House noted that during one of these meetings convened by Ssekandi, “the Woman MP for Masaka District Freda Mubanda, the Vice President commended party leaders and supporters for endorsing President Museveni, a move he called on all other NRM leaders and supporters across the country to emulate.”

Masaka LC5 Chairman Joseph Kalungi and the district NRM chairperson Peter Ssenkungu plus Sub-county Councilors, Women and youth leaders, mobilisers and opinion leaders were among the NRM supporters who voted to endorse Museveni’s 2016 bid.
