KCCA edge closer to league title

HERMAN Wasswa promised that he would score against Vipers and he did exactly that today as KCCA got their 15th win to edge closer to a tenth FUFA Super League title.

Wasswa, who has now scored in four consecutive matches, got KCC’s winner in the seventh minute.

“I told you that I would score. I just couldn’t allow Vipers to beat us home and away, more so now that we are eyeing the title,” a smiling Wasswa said after the match played in slippery conditions.

The relatively big crowd in the Phillip Omondi Stadium was sent into cheers as early as the fifth minute by new revelation Derrick Nsibambi.

The 18 year old Dynamics SS student, appearing in only his fourth match for the Lugogo side, nodded in the opening goal off a Mike Birungi cross.

“This young man has shown character by holding his nerves in such a big game,” coach George Nsimbe credited the number nine who joined KCCA at the start of the second round.

Robert Kimuli got Vipers’ consolation in the 37th minute. KCCA now have a three point lead with six matches left in Uganda’s premier soccer competition.

Following the game from the sidelines were injured KCCA players Ivan Ntege, Rogers Aloro and Habib Kavuma together with suspended Brian Majwega and Tony Odur.

In Namboole Moses Ndaula scored for Kira Young while Muwadda Mawejje found the mark for Victoria University in one of the day’s three draws.

Elsewhere coach Kefa Kisala could not beat his former side Masaka. Andy Kiwewa and a William Otongo own goal were enough to give Masaka maximum points while Bidco’s lone goal was scored by Hussein Kato.

Police and SC Villa also played to a 1-1 result. Ronald Nyanzi scored for Police while Henry Bagonza was on target for the Jogoos.

In Mbale, Meddie Kayongo scored a face-saving goal in the 58th minute to salvage a point for Express FC.

Jackson Businge had got the opening goal for the hosts in the 8th minute. The visitors then started throwing everything they had at CRO.

The draw, however, has not improved their relegation survival chances for the Mbale based side with five games still at hand having collected only 15 points.
