According to Margret Namujuzi, the in charge out reaches at Lubaga hospital, all the services will be accessed at a cost of sh2500 for adults and sh1500 for children.

The area LC1 chairman, David Mayanja, said this is the first health centre in the area after Kirundu health centre was demolished.

The community was finding it hard to access cheap and reliable health care.

“People could travel to Kampala for medication. The clinics around are expensive and have no qualified medical personel. This area is also highly affected by malaria and diabetes. But with a health centre in place, I believe these diseases will be dealt with,” he said.

He also called upon the government to help the community with garbage collection.

“We organised the locals to collect garbage in sacks so that it is picked by the local government. However, they did it for a few months and they stopped. The poor sanitation also leads to the spread of diseases such as diarrhoea and other sanitation related diseases,” Mayanja added.

Jessica Namata, a resident of Bwebaja said she suffered with her sick child for a long time. She visited a number of clinics including native doctors who claimed not to find any disease with the boy.

“Upon visiting the new health centre, the doctors did tests and discovered that he had typhoid, they have given him treatment and I believe he will recover. People should visit accredited health centres instead of depending on clinics,” Namata explained.
