Carthage, Tunisia (April 17-28)

NDEJJE Elites’ assistant captain Jesca Kaidu believes her side can only be worried of three opponents at the African Women Volleyball Club Championship starting on Thursday April 17 in Carthage, Tunisia.

Kaidu made the remarks at the team’s send-off ceremony at the National Council of Sports at Lugogo saying only the defending champions Kenya Prisons, Algeria and hosts Tunisia are likely to give them the toughest challenge at the two week event ending April 28.

“We met them at the previous tournament last year and managed to observe their games critically. They are good sides and we pray that we don’t meet them in the group stages,” Kaidu said.

But in addition to that, the Elites skipper Belinda Jepkirui praised her side for grasping most of the tactics imparted to them during the two month training camp held at Ndejje main campus in Luweero and at the MTN Arena in Lugogo.

“We had challenges in blocks and setting but I can proudly say that my teammates responsible for these positions have showed full potential and we are likely to do wonders this time round,” Jepkirui said.

The team of 11 players headed by coach Johnson Kawenyera is likely to also depend on Christine Alupo, Saidat Nnungi, Maureen Mwamula, Aminah Namwanje, Moreen Nakabuubi, Margret Namyalo, Glays Nyakecho, Carolyne Kasande and Irene Amoding as they search for victory.

The competition that attracts the biggest number of teams for a continental women’s championship is expected to field record number of participants, up from the 16 teams that took part last year.
