Kiprotich finishes 12th at London Marathon

THE Olympic and World Champion, who was sixth in the same race last year, slid further back finishing 12th position in two hours 11:37 minutes

THE Virgin London Marathon again proved too fast for Ugandan star Stephen Kiprotich.

The Olympic and World Champion, who was sixth in the same race last year, slid further back finishing 12th position in two hours 11:37 minutes.

Mo Farah who was making his marathon debut finished a respectable 8th to break the English record but finished outside Steve Jones' 29-year-old British record of 2:07:13. Reuters Photo

Kenya’s world record holder Wilson Kipsang won the event in a new course record of 2:04:29. Another Kenyan Stanley Biwott came second while 2013 winner Tsegaye Kebede came third in a race that attracted 37000 runners.

Kenya's Edna Kiplagat won the women's elite race with Florence Kiplagat in second and Tirunesh Dibaba third.

Among those who beat Kiprotich in one of the world’s most lucrative races was Briton Mo Farah in eighth position.
