Heavy police deployment ahead of Lukwago's ruling

Police have deployed heavily around Kampala city as the embattled Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago goes to the Supreme Court for a ruling on an application he filed to allow him resume his mayoral duties.

Police patrol trucks have been seen at the Fairway Hotel roundabout, Kololo stretch, Kisekka Market and at Lukwago and Dr. Kiiza Besigye’s homes.

Police Spokesperson, Fred Enanga, in a telephone interview with the New Vision said the deployment arises out of ‘credible intelligence’ that indicates that opposition politicians plan to march to the Central Business district after the Supreme Court ruling.

“Our intelligence indicates that the opposition leaders have a plan B of marching from the Supreme Court to the central business district after the ruling. We have deployed to avert any disruptions to the normal flow of business,” Enanga said.

He however, said the opposition leaders are free to leave their homes and go the court to hear the ruling.
Lukwago has however, denied knowledge of any march by the opposition in the city.
