THE Archbishop of the Church of Uganda Stanley Ntagali has asked Christians to use the Easter season to repent, saying it is the only way the country can be freed of social evils.

“Repent your sins so that our country shall be brought closer to God and social evils such as corruption, land grabbing, witchcraft and lack of tolerance can be overcome,” Ntagali said.

He said institutions such as homes, schools and the church shall also become enjoyable and suitable to glorify God.

Ntagali made the remarks during the 3rd day of his familiarization tour of Namirembe Diocese at St. Luke Church in Mengo archdeaconry on April 09, 2014.

He said in Uganda, there are so many injustices like child sacrifice, domestic violence, drug abuse which are now a big issue in our schools.

Ntagali also urged government to extend free University education to Ugandan children.

“Currently government is implementing free education programmes up to High School level but after these schemes, parliament should begin debating on the plan that will see poor children accessing free university education in this country,” Ntagali said.

Besides the free Universal primary and secondary programmes, government sponsors at least 4000 best-performing students at the six public universities in the country.

Archbishop Ntagali, who took over the church leadership in December last year, told New Vision that currently it’s very hard for children of the poor to access university education.

The Archbishop also noted that Uganda is in danger currently because of wide-spread corruption. Quoting the bible in Luke 8:22-25, Mathew 11:28, Archbishop Ntagali urged Ugandans to continue having strong faith in God.

Ntagali who was flanked by his wife Beatrice Ntagali, Bishop Wilberforce Luwalira and his wife Faith Luwalira and the Dean of St. Luke Church in Makindye Division, John Gitta Kavuma planted a tree at St. Luke church in memory of his visit.

Ntagali who since Monday has been traversing Namirembe Diocese was later hosted to a luncheon at in Munyonyo.
