BOXING will be allotted five slots on the Uganda team to the Commonwealth Games later this year according to Uganda Olympic Committee president William Blick.

The Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) has been agitating for bigger representation on the team but Blick argued that since Ugandan boxing has not been active at international level over the years, it is only fair that they take five slots.

“The sport has not been active for over four years so it will be unfair to give them more slots compared to those who have not only been active but have also been winning medals on international scene,” Blick stated.

Uganda was not represented at the last Commonwealth Games in India. They also missed out on the London Olympics in 2012.

A boxing squad of 64 is currently in training under coach Dick Katende in preparation for the Commonwealth Games and Africa Youth Championship. Katende is being assisted by Oscar Binka.
