UGANDA Olympic Committee (UOC) president William Blick has encouraged Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) members to join sports management in the country if sport is to develop.
Blick urged members in his presentation to the USPA members on the way UOC is managed in the country.
He added that national federations are still wanting in terms communication and media coverage of the sport which is a key factor in the development of sports.
“I do encourage you to join sports management in Uganda. Join the various federations in the country and bridge that communication gap,” Blick stated.
He further urged members to go for further studies in sports management and be knowledgeable in sports administration.
“We have several education courses on sports and are fully funded by International Olympic Committee (IOC). You can read them on the online and apply through USPA or get invitation through the UOC media committee,” Blick explained.
He further explained that UOC is in the process of acquiring property to build a high performance facility that will be UOC’s home to be used by the athletes and produce more Kipsiros and Kiprotichs in future.
Blick further pledged that all Olympic sports that don’t have offices are allowed to use UOC offices for their meetings and also receive secretarial services.
He faulted government of the poor funding of the national teams. He cited motocross and rugby that won the African titles but didn’t receive any shilling from government.
Blick also added that following the recent sex scandals in athletics, UOC appointed female chaperons and physiotherapists to handle the female athletes.
“I was much hurt by the stories in the media about the sex scandals and how female athletes are being harassed, but I can’t comment much on the issue until a full report is released by the athletics body,” Blick stressed.
