CONSTANTINE Ochwo, Boaz Muhindo and Lodovico Mandela scored as newcomers Gulu University’s delayed Nile Special University Football League debut ended in 3-0 hammering of visiting Ndejje University in the northern Uganda town on Friday.
Gulu University caretaker coach Calvin Okello had warned that his side would do anything to avoid embarrassment against Ndejje in their opening match.
“You can never undermine a game here (in Gulu) until it is over and that is what our opponents underestimated,” Okello said as he beamed with happiness after their victory
Gulu University had delayed to launch their Nile Special University Football League campaign away against Busitema last week and Okello explained that it was due to a communication gap between the university and league organisers.
The league continues tomorrow with Nkumba hosting Busitema University. Nkumba team coach Patrick Sebuliba has advised Busitema University to try something different as they visit his boys.
"In December I visited Busitema on unfamiliar ground and beat them convincingly. I am not sure they have changed between then and now. But I will engage different strategies in a period of 15 minutes of play until I realise that I'm playing the same team that we whipped 3-0 last year," Sebuliba said.
But Sebuliba may need to give Busitema a chance because he is yet to see them play this time round.
Despite Sebuliba's confidence, he will be out to shake off pressure from Kyambogo University with whom they are tied atop Group A on four points.
