Police has been tasked to expedite the investigations on the murder of the 17-year old school girl in Wakiso district and arrest the culprits.

Police has been tasked to expedite the investigations on the murder of the 17-year old school girl in Wakiso district and arrest the culprits.

“We are condemning this act in the strongest terms and call upon the Police and Government not only to act but provide accountability to the nation,” Rita Aciro, the executive director of Uganda Women’s Network said.
 

Joan Namazi, a student of St. Mark's College Namagoma' was kidnaped and murdered by unknown assailants who demanded a ransom.
 

Aciro, in a press briefing in Kampala, said that over the last few weeks there has been a series of disturbing events of continued violence against women such as rape, defilement domestic violence and murder.
 

“Violence against women is perhaps the most widely spread and socially tolerated form of human rights around the world and in Uganda today,” she said.
 

Sheila Kawamara, the chairperson of Uganda Women’s Network condemned the Police actions for blocking meetings organized by the opposition leaders and civil society organization aimed at creating awareness about the electoral reforms.
 

“As women of Uganda we call for an environment of peace, calm and freedom to campaign articulate real concerns to participate in these campaigns without fear favour and prejudices,” Kawamara said.
