The internal affairs minister Gen. Aronda Nyakairima has said Government will hold a dialogue with opposition leaders on how to organize political rallies in accordance with the law.
He said this while addressing the media at parliament yesterday shortly after meeting the parliamentary committee on defence and internal affairs over the Kanungu inferno.
“We have agreed to meet with the opposition leaders because they have grossly misunderstood the Public Order Management Act. They claim that the Act has been misused, which is not true,” Gen. Nyakairima said.
The minister added that on Thursday this week he will hold a security meeting over the meeting in which a date would be set.
The opposition has accused the police of abusing the public order Act , citing what they call ‘illegal’ blocking of their gatherings on the call for electoral reforms before 2016 general elections and the prevention of opposition leaders from attending upcountry talk shows.
