Saints tasked to show character in Uganda Cup tie

Saints coach, Mark Twinamstiko, has called on his players to dig deep and show their real character when they face Uganda Cup defending champions Sports Club Victoria University tomorrow at Namboole Tuesday afternoon.

“We are the underdogs here, SCVU are the defending champions, they’re an FSL side and I am hearing that they’ll be out for revenge, which is surprising because we have never played them in any serious game, and we’ve only met in friendlies.”
 

“But we need to be positive, play our game and enjoy ourselves. We need a good attitude.” Twinamstiko added
 

The SCVU midfielder Noah Semakula insisted as team they put their effort to this game so as to qualify for the quarterfinal.
 

“As a team we shall keep looking forward to the next game and all the focus will be on having a really good game against Saints”, Semakula said.
 

Semakula further added that part of the last season’s winning team and he is confident making progress will be priority.
 

The Saints, FUFA Big league club, stormed into last 16 of the Uganda Cup with a walkover after Masindi Tigers failed to honor the tie. While SCVU saw off another Big League side Ndejje University 0-2 at Ndejje in Luwero.
 

However Saints will miss the services of Striker Rajab Jooga since he is on loan from SCVU.
 

In the other game, League leaders Vipers host URA in one other interesting game of the day.
 

Since winning the national league in 2010, Vipers SC have struggled to claim national silverware; the closest they go was the final of the Uganda Cup in 2012. A solitary effort by URA’s Robert Ssentogo in Gulu denied them another national title.
 

The following year Vipers again fell to Sports Club Victoria University on Spot kicks after a 1-1 draw in Masindi.
