The disapperance of the toddler has resurrected fears among some people that child thefts have returned.

Last month, a one-day-old baby boy was allegedly stolen from its mother at St. Ambrose health center in Kagadi town council, Kibaale district.

The mother of the stolen baby said that a seemingly friendly woman had approached her and had requested to help take the baby for immunization at the outpatient department but that she never returned.

In May last year, a one-and-half year-old boy got stranded at Mulago hospital in Kampala after he was dumped by his mother at the health facility's Labour Ward.

There has also been repeated focus on the question of child trafficking on various media platforms.

In the same month of February, New Vision reported a story of the arrest of two women for allegedly trafficking babies, and later followed it up with another story of how, working with the police, Julian Kirabo, the main suspect, was arrested.
