VP hails SDA church on development role

Uganda’s vice president Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi has commended the Seventh Day Adventist Church for complementing Government in providing social services to the people of Uganda.

MASAKA - Uganda’s vice president Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi has commended the Seventh Day Adventist Church for complementing Government in providing social services to the people of Uganda.

Ssekandi noted that the SDA church has made remarkable contribution to the social development of Uganda particularly in the advancement of education, health services and moral uprightness founded on bible teaching.

Speaking at Nabinene SDA church in Masaka district on Saturday, the VP mentioned that many outstanding schools and health facilities that have stood the taste of time in Uganda are founded on religious lines.

He also pointed out that religious institutions continue to be key partners of Government in its efforts of delivery social services to the people.

Ssekandi told worshippers to emulate Jesus Christ and his teachings if they are to live in harmony with each other and to please God.

The SDA church is working on a key multi-million shilling health facility – SDA National Referral Hospital – to be constructed at the church’s headquarters in Kireka, Kampala.

After commending the church for this project, Ssekandi went on to contribute sh3m towards renovation of Nabinene Church during a fundraising drive.

The drive managed to raise over sh13m on top of pledges.

During the same function, Nabinene Church leader, Pastor Peter Nsereko, called on Christians and other faithful to contribute generously towards the church’s renovation and the repair of the pastor’s house.

The ceremony which started with prayers, was attended by a cross-section of local political and civic leaders and faithful.
