KAMPALA - Fimbo’s hopes of representing Uganda in the 2014 Bamburi Rugby Super Series were shattered as they lost their second game 8-3 to the Magicians at Kyadondo Rugby Club on Saturday.

The defeat eliminated them from vying for the top two spots that will form Victoria and Rwenzori that will represent Uganda in the Bamburi Rugby Super Series next month.

Fimbo dominated possession right from the beginning of the first half but failed to translate that superiority into tries.

Even with their bossing of possession, they would end up losing the ball in the 5-yard of their opponent’s side in a clash that lived well to its expectations.

Fimbo’s kicking inability also haunted them most as kicker Byron Atubikire failed to convert any of the five penalties they were gifted with in the first half. Had he turned them all in, that would have helped sail them through by the final whistle.

Joseph Oyet scored a penalty while Mathias Ochwo added a try for the Magicians to seal the score 8-3 in a game that had Brian Tabaruka voted Man of the Match.

In the second game, Protectors continued their winning form, whipping the Crocs 22-13 to become the first team to qualify for the Series.

Kasimu Buyondo, Pius Ogena, Edwin Kayima and Gerald Ssewankambo scored a try each while Chris Lubanga added a conversion for the Protectors.

The Crocs’ try was scored by Ernest Byarugaba while Adrian Kasato added a penalty and a conversion.
