The former rugby national team (Rugby Cranes) captain Mathias Ochwo has urged former internationals to support the current youthful national teams as they prepare for their international competitions.
Ochwo made the appeal on Wednesday evening after the team’s training at Kyadondo rugby club as they prepare for the Confederation of Africa Rugby (CAR 1B) in Tunisia in June and the Elgon Cup in July.
“We need to attend training sessions, interact with these players in the different teams and share the different experiences with them, so that they are motivated,” Ochwo stated.
Three national teams, the Lady Cranes 7s team, The Rugby Cranes 7s team and the Rugby Cranes 15s team are training for the different continental tournaments this year.
The Lady Cranes are preparing for the Africa 7s in Machakos Kenya next month, the Rugby Cranes7s team is preparing for the Commonwealth Games and Africa Sevens tournament in July and September respectively.
The Rugby Cranes 15s team is preparing for the CAR tier 1B in Tunisia.
“Patriotism is not being paid to represent your country but to contribute for the success of the country voluntarily and that is what I want my colleagues to do,” Ochwo added.
Ochwo on Tuesday trained with the Ladies team and encouraged them to be focused and win their games if they are to be called patriots.
“You are the patriots of this country.you have defied all odds to be here and train under harsh conditions but your sacrifice shall be felt when you return victorious so be focused,” Ochwo told the girls.
