The NRM national vice chairpersons youth league northern region and Kampala have been charged with abuse of  office  and remanded  to Luzira prison.

Omodo- Omodo, vice chairperson northern region and Adam Ruzindana (Kampala) were charged  Wednesday before the Anti-corruption Court by Principal Magistrate Michael Lagara in a fully packed court, and remanded  to Luzira prison after they failed to present  substantial sureties. They denied the charges.

Lagara said the sureties presented in court could not be relied on because they lack proper identification.

Omodo- Omodo  and Ruzindana  had presented  Lillian  Kamugara, a businesswoman  and employee of Agency International,  a  lawyer, Hassan Sserunjogi;  a  driver  with  Tourist  Guide, Ibrahim  Nsubuga,   a shop  attendant, Richard Serugo, city  businesswoman  Jacqueline Susan Mbabazi and  another shop attendant,   Kassim Saidi.

Only Mbabazi was found to be a substantial surety.

Lagara said much as Mbabazi was a substantial surety, court could not rely on her in case the accused failed to honour their bail.

They were remanded until April 2, when the case will come up for mention.

Prosecution  led  by Bernadette Nalule and  Sam Ojok  alleged  that  the accused and  others still at large,  being employed  by  the National Resistance  Movement youth league between January and  March 2014, in abuse  of authority  of  their offices, did an arbitrary act  prejudicial  to the  interest  of  their employer.

Prosecution said without the knowledge  and  consent  of  the National Resistance Movement(NRM)  they fraudulently  solicited,  for bribe, induced  and tricked  the National Resistance Movement Party members and mobilisers into signing  a  petition  to convene  a  delegate conference to challenge to NRM party resolutions.
