The host, in his opening remarks, emphasized the need to take a multidisciplinary action against ADF and FDRL groups in order to achieve lasting peace.

“We cannot allow rebel groups, without any social support base and violating all democratic principles, to continue to undermine the rule of law and integrity of national borders, destabilizing the economic and social life and keeping the population hostage of their illegal and criminal practice” he said.

He called on such groups to take advantage of the political openness and opportunities for dialogue offered to them by government to join and participate in the broader peace process and social political integration in progress.

“We believe that there are many ways that can bring the parties to end the crises and conflicts, and help to normalize the situation in all the countries of the great lakes region, the President said.

He hailed the efforts of his counterparts for their commitment and dedication in the struggle to the eradication of the causes of instability in the region.

“The peace and security of our countries and our peoples are unavoidable engagements which we cannot put off. The countries of the great lakes region should ensure full respect and protection of human rights, strengthening the bonds of neighborliness and not allowing their territories to be used for carrying out hostile actions against other states” he said.

President Museveni was received at the Luanda AO de Fevereiro Airport by the Angolan Minister of Petroleum Botelho De Vasconcelos.

He was accompanied by the State Minister for Regional Cooperation Asuman Kiyingi and other government officials.
