FORMER Uganda Red Cross Society Secretary General Moses Nataka lost the NRM Primaries to contest for Bubulo West Constituency to Rose Mutonyi Masaba.

According to NRM Electoral Commissioner Dorothy Kisaka, Nataka garnered 17% of the vote, compared to winner Mutonyi who got 42%. She was followed by Walukhu Wataka with 22%, making Nataka come third.

The seat fell vacant after the dismissal of Tony Kipoi for absconding from his parliamentary duties. Kipoi had reportedly attended only 7 out of the 103 sittings of second session of the current eighth parliament.

Electoral Commission has set April 10th as the polling day for the by-election. NRM EC Chief Prof. Elijah Mushemeza yesterday said a total of 16 people including former State Minister for Transport, Sylvester Wanjusi Wasieba initially had expressed interest in the seat, but others fell out.

Mutonyi has contested for the Manafwa district woman Parliamentary seat before.

Others in the race were Simeo John (8.8%), Werikhe Peter (3.5%), Samali Abbas (2.7%),  and Situma Muyanda (0.99%), according to Commissioner Kisaka.

Others who dropped out of the race were Samalie Wanderema, a lecture at the Islamic University in Uganda – IUIU and Ronnie Walukhu, a Kampala based lawyer among others.
