The Buganda community living in Tororo, Busia and Malaba have started a cleanup exercise in the three towns ahead of Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga.

Mayiga is expected to visit at the end of March as part of his countrywide fundraising drive towards the reconstruction of the Kasubi tombs.

The coordinator, Livingstone Kimbugwe, said all Baganda in the area including students of Busitema University and Uganda College of Commerce Tororo have been mobilized take part in the activity.

Kimbugwe said members are eager to receive the Katikkiro as all the necessary arrangements have been finalized.

Speaking during the cleaning exercise in Malaba town on Thursday, Kimbugwe said apart from slashing, sweeping the towns and unblocking the drainages channels, they will also support health facilities.

The members removed filthy heaps of garbage that had remained uncollected for over two weeks that had posed as a health hazard to residents in the border town.

Malaba town council Principal health officer, Wilberforce Wendo, thanked the Buganda community for supplementing the council’s efforts in garbage collections. He said the council is currently faced with limited resources for adequate removal of the garbage.
