UGANDA Cranes players and technical staff have reason to give their all during the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after National Insurance Corporation (NIC) renewed their insurance partnership with the Federation of Uganda Football Associations.
The partnership covers the 33 players and technical staff in case of injuries and deaths that may occur while on or off the pitch during national duty.
Funeral expenses in case of any death while on national duty are also covered under the new deal worth sh660m.
Unveiling the new partnership during a press conference at NIC headquarters on Tuesday NIC Managing Director Folayan Bayo said that his company will keep insuring the Uganda Cranes to uplift standards of the team.
“This package is in line with NIC’s community development program through sports and the players can put their best foot forward during matches with minimal worries of what might happen while on national duty,” Bayo stated.
“Our Vision in this partnership is to create an enabling environment for the Cranes so that they too can compete on a global platform and rank among the best in the world,”
FUFA president Moses Magogo said that the partnership is a motivation for both the players and federation officials.
‘We are happy that our players are insured; this kind of investment gives us the motivation to go out there and do our best,” said Magogo.
The insurance firm is committing up to sh20m per player in case of death, sh20m in case of a permanent injury and sh1m to funeral expenses for any member irrespective of cause of death.
There are also ready to pay sh160m for accumulated-limit injuries and death on top of travel insurance for 25 players and 33 players during training.
