Five games into the UCA T20 National League, the Wanderers have the top runs-scorer, top wicket-taker and top fielder. 

It is not exactly what was expected of a team that has started the season losing some of its best players and written off its own chances of defending of the T20 National League. 

But is it genuine stuff or merely a bubble waiting to burst? 

The answers may come from today’s meeting with Charity at Lugogo. Charity came into the weekend top of Group A with four wins in as many games.

The Wanderers, who have been led Humphrey Kayondo’s league-leading 214 runs, Mohameed Rahel’s nine wickets and Timothy Erumuka’s four catches, are second in Group A with four wins from five games. 

Semi-finalists last year, Charity are, by all indications, going for it. By contrast, the Wanderers are, by own admission, not genuine championship challengers.

Despite dominating the stats, Denis Musali’s Wanderers are not sure they have the depth to retain their crown. 

Yet Wanderers’ young crop of players may turn out to be more function than everyone has forecasted, a bit like Charity’s. 

This is the match of the day but there are nine other games on schedule, including Charity’s afternoon clash with the Kutchi Tigers, who are fifth with four points from two games.
