Kadaga speaks out on 'rebel MPs'

Kadaga informed Parliament that she had received a letter from lawyers representing Theodore Ssekikubo, Wilfred Niwagaba, Muhamed Nsereko and Barnabas Tinkasiimire

The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga yesterday informed Parliament that she had received a letter from lawyers representing Theodore Ssekikubo, Wilfred Niwagaba, Muhamed Nsereko and Barnabas Tinkasiimire in which they forwarded to her office a ruling in Constitutional Application No. 04 of 2014.
“In the said ruling, I am restrained by the Supreme Court from implementing the orders of the Constitutional Court until the substantive application for stay of execution and a temporary injunction is disposed of by the court,” she said.
“The four members mentioned are hereby permitted to sit in Parliament and take part in all parliamentary activities and its committees and receive payment of all salaries, allowances, other emoluments and entitlements due to a Member of Parliament until such a time as the Supreme Court determines otherwise,” Kadaga said as MPs, mainly from the opposition, jubilated.
The four MPs, commonly referred to as the rebel MPs in NRM, have been involved in protracted court battles regarding their dismissal from Parliament. The NRM party dismissed the MPs after the party’s disciplinary committee found them guilty for various offenses
