Education Minister Jessica Alupo says she expects a higher number of students to join senior five this year as compared to last year because candidature for the 2013 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) increased by 10%, up from 295,768 in 2012.

The selection of senior five students has kicked off at Wonder World Amusement park (formerly Didi's World) in Kampala.
The two-day exercise has attracted head teachers from across the country. It will end on Friday.
The Education Ministry has set March 17 as the date for senior five students to report to school.
Education Minister Jessica Alupo says she expects a higher number of students to join senior five this year as compared to last year because candidature for the 2013 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) increased by 10%, up from 295,768 in 2012.
According to Mathew Bukenya, the Executive Secretary of UNEB, in 2013, 289,012 candidates appeared for the examination as opposed to 262, 987 in 2012, an upsurge of 26,025 candidates.
Alupo attributes the remarkable increase in candidature to the Universal Secondary Education (USE), saying, of the students who registered to sit for UCE last year, 129, 853 (43.94%) were beneficiaries of the government sponsorship.
