The Uganda Human Rights Network for Journalists(UHRNJ) on Tuesday released the 2013 Press Freedom Index Report, tasking the Police to probe further and bring Thomas Pere’s murderers to book.

Thomas Pere, a former New Vision writer, was found murdered and his body bundled in a trench in Massajja, off Entebbe Road, on June 16, 2013.

He had several wounds on his body and a deep cut on his head.

However, investigations into who could have murdered or wanted him murdered, hit a snag. In July, a month after his untimely murder, two suspects (both commuter taxi drivers) were arrested with a blood stained taxi, suspected to have been used in the murder.

But in September, the Katwe Police post released the suspects after DNA results turned out negative.

Since then, no developments have been registered in the murder.

The report, released at the Kampala Golf Course hotel, wants the Police to investigate deeper and bring the culprits behind Pere’s death, then 36, to book.

“The actual assailant(s) behind this gruesome act remain at large,” it says.
