THE big guns are headed for the UCA T20 National League quarterfinals and Arthur Kyobe is determined to ensure the Challengers don’t miss out.

The hard-hitting opener was acquired by the heavy-spending Challengers to carry the burden of the club’s ambitions and there is little doubt Kyobe knows where to find the runs.

No wonder he was the main reason the Challengers tasted success for the first time in this year’s T20 tournament, with back-to-back victories against KICC and the Warriors on Sunday. Kyobe clobbered 63 runs off 44 balls to lead the Challengers (155/4) to a five-wicket win over rival big-spender KICC (154/8) at Budo with 2.4 overs to spare.

Kyobe wasn’t done. In the Challengers’ afternoon clash with the Warriors on the same ground, the leftie smashed 66 off 30 as his team made light work of the Warriors’ first innings total of 135, which had been founded on Shazad Kamal’s 69 off 47. The chase was over inside the first 10 overs.

The two wins were the Challengers’ perfect riposte to losing their first two games last week and moved them to the top four in Group B. Leaders Tornado, with four wins out of four, are already through to the last eight.

In Group A, Charity (4-0), Wanderers (4-1) and Tornado B (3-0) are either through or nearly there, following wins in all their weekend fixtures.
