ST. Mary's College Kisubi (SMACK) versus Namilyango College is the oldest and most highly billed derby in Ugandan schools rugby.

The ages old rivalry ranges from academics to sports and inevitably they have started a war of words ahead of their showdown on Sunday.

Namilyango (fumblers – as labelled by SMACK) and SMACK (weevils – when Namilyango returned the favour) renew their rivalry of over 108 years at Namilyango when they face-off in Group B of the schools league in a battle that will require one to have more than just skills and talent to claim victory.

Both teams are spitting fire but SMACK coach Ronald Mutebi has called on the governing body (USSRA) to take charge of security that has been neglected for many years when the two clash.

“Our game has always been a derby and the last time we were at Namilyango the windows of our bus were smashed so the organisers must put security in mind,” Mutebi stated.

“We shall need more than just skills because their crowd is always volatile and intimidating but we are ready for them,” Mutebi added.

SMACK will rely on team captain Ronald Ogwok, winger Simon Dungu, Enock Tumusiime, and Brian Kasirye that have regularly registered their names on the score sheet.

However, Namilyango games teacher Valence Bizimaana was quick retaliate after hearing Mutebi’s comments.

“He very well knows that it is rare for SMACK to get from us a win at home, and that is why he creates early excuses before the game but for us we are ready for nothing less than a win” Bizimaana stated.

Namilyango will rely on Ivan Munyani, Joel Nalere, kicker Edgar Sseruwagi and team captain Arnold Ssemwogerere to execute their game plan.

After two games, SMACK leads Group B with 10 points from two wins while Namilyango has 7 points from a draw and a win.
