The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Union (EU) Ambassador to Uganda have agreed to hold a political dialogue on the 28 March 2014, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In the meeting hosted today by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Sam Kutesa, Uganda and the EU agreed to have a political dialogue later next month, specifically on the issue of the Ant-Homosexuality Law. It is expected that, going forward, the outcome of that dialogue will mutually agree to address concerns raised as a result of the enactment of this Law.

Earlier, Hon. Kutesa had raised reservations by the uproar against Uganda, questioning EU relationship with other African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries that had instituted Anti-Homosexuality legislations in their statute books.

Pending the dialogue, the EU Ambassador to Uganda, Ambassador Kristian Schmidt agreed to prevail over his colleagues to refrain from unilateral actions to cut development assistance to Uganda. He said “under the EU standing orders, unilateral declarations by EU member states are discouraged”.
