CRICKET body UCA have hailed the contribution of Cricket Without Boundaries (CWB) to the development of grassroots cricket in Northern Uganda.

CWB are back in the country for their annual activities in the northern districts, this time aiming for Gulu, Arua and Lira. CWB will conduct training in basic cricket skills in selected schools, coaching clinics with teachers in addition to offering lecturers on HIV/AIDS and other life skills.

CWB, which has brought 11 members for this trip, will also give out cricket equipment to sustain activities long after their trip. All of this has left the UCA appreciative, partly due to the fact that northern Uganda was a cricket desert when CWB started their trips in 2005.

“They are definitely helping in the development of the game because their activities obviously increase the awareness of cricket because wherever they have gone they have attracted a lot of interest,” said UCA chief administrator Martin Ondeko.

Since their first visit nine years ago, CWB have made annual trips to Uganda and last year they sent representatives on four different occasions. The CWB team arrived in the country on Saturday and left four Gulu the following day. After four days, they will head to before winding up their tour in Lira with a three-day stay starting on the 5th.
