Meat traders flock court over ownership of city abattoir

Meat traders in Kampala have flocked the Commercial Court for a verdict over the ownership of the city abattoir.

The meat traders are complaining that city businessman Dan Katalibwa the owner of Travellers coaches claims ownership of the city abattoir located on Old Portbell Road.

“The city abattoir belongs to our great great grandfathers. Our grandparents left the city abattoir to us,” Wilberforce Mutasasira the spokesman of Kampala city abattoir said.

According to Mutasasira the city abattoir employs over 20,000 people.

The New Vision captured some of the meat traders sleeping and seated at the entry of Commercial Court waiting for the ruling. The abattoir was started in 1935.

The meat traders who were clad in white coats and gumboots were being monitored by the Police in case of violence erupted.
