The Police together with the Uganda People’s Defense Forces and the health ministry are spearheading the construction of a cancer diagnostic and research centre.

The center is expected to be an epicenter for all cancer diagnoses and treatment in both country and region.

The Centre, also a partnership with consultant cancer specialist, Dr. Shabeer Ahmed from India, will be located on Acacia Avenue, on the plot formerly housing the Counter Terrorism Headquarters.

This was revealed on Monday by the Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura, at a function to sensitize members of the armed forces on cancer causes, prevention, diagnosis and treatment at the Kampala Silver Springs Hotel.

Kayihura intimated the partnership was through with the artistic impressions of the ‘mini hospital’ and that commencement of the actual construction work is only a matter of days.

“We are using our own construction unit (the police construction unit). In about three months we should be through with the construction,” said Kayihura.

This initiative will be the second centre offering cancer diagnosis, treatment and research, after the Uganda Cancer Institute at the Mulago Referral Hospital
