Mbarara woman stabs husband to death

A-25-year-old Rwandan national has been arrested by Mbarara Police in connection with stabbing her husband to death.

A-25-year-old Rwandan national has been arrested by Mbarara Police in connection with stabbing her husband to death.


Bena Gateganyire a resident in Biafra cell in Kamukuzi Division in Mbarara stabbed her husband Frank Bashaija, also of Rwanda origin after she allegedly suspected him of cheating on her.

Polly Namaye, the Rwizi region police spokesperson, said the suspect allegedly stabbed her husband to death using a knife outside a bar in Biafra on Saturday evening at around 10:00pm. The body of the deceased was later found in a pool of blood outside the bar.

"The suspect was told by a friend that her husband was with another girl only identified as Rose in a local bar. She went and waylaid him outside the bar and stabbed him to death. After the incident Gateganyire took off from the angry mob that wanted to lynch her .She was later arrested at Makhansingh Street in Mbarara town," Namaye said.

The deceased who hails from Byumba, Rwanda was running a charcoal business while his wife Gateganyire, hails from Nyakagatare  and was  operating a restaurant besides husband's business in Kajogo, Biafra.

The couple has been married for two years without a child. However Gateganyire has a child she came with from Rwanda around 2011.

Namaye, said police was still carrying out investigations and that Gateganyire will be charged with murder.
