Kiryowa Kiwanuka takes over UGU leadership

KIWANUKA who has been vice president to out-going president Amos Nzeyi, was elected unopposed at the Uganda Golf Union Annual General Meeting at the Uganda Golf Club

FORMER Entebbe golf club chairman Kiryowa Kiwanuka is the new president of the Uganda Golf Union.

Kiwanuka who has been vice president to out-going president Amos Nzeyi, was elected unopposed at the Uganda Golf Union Annual General Meeting at the Uganda Golf Club on Friday.

The meeting was attended by 15 captains of the golf clubs in Uganda who were joined by the executive committee which was headed by Amos Nzeyi. Nzeyi was expected to run for a second time. The electorate consisted of 20 members.

Outgoing president Amos Nzeyi who had been nominated to contest for the same post pulled out of the race shortly before the matter was put to vote.

Johnson Omollo who has been serving as general secretary in the out-going executive is the new vice president after beating Dr. Alex Courthino by a landslide, (16-4) votes.

Another Entebbe Golf Club members Innocent Kihiika was elected secretary after beating Dr. Kato Ssebaale, 12-8 while Jonathan Bakwega was unopposed for the post of treasurer.

The committee members are Herbert Rwamibazi (Entebbe Club/ Uganda Golf Club, Kampala) and JB Tumusiime a member of Entebbe Club, Kilembe, Fortportal and Capt. Kabale Golf Club) who returned 13 and 10 votes respectively out of a field that included Edwin Tumusiime, the outgoing Treasurer, Nick Okwir, outgoing Committee member and Dr. Alex Courtinho.

"The Entebbe team that is known for having turned the club round has now been given the task of turning the Union round to making it a more nationalised game rather than concentrating in Kampala," incoming secretary Innocent Kihiika commented in an e-mail.
