CAF Confederations Cup

SCVU v Don Bosco (Sunday 4pm)

THE scale of the mountain SCVU must climb in their CAF Confederations Cup fixture against DR Congo side Don Bosco is such that drawing comparisons with Mount Everest would be a complete underestimation.

In every sense, the odds seem to be against the Uganda Cup champions, who find themselves in the most unprivileged position of having to overcome a 3-0 first leg defeat.

But such has been David Obua’s motivational speech that SCVU will march into Sunday’s return game extremely high on confidence.

The former Cranes star paid the team a courtesy visit at Lugogo stadium yesterday and the impact of this surprise gesture has left an everlasting impression on the team.

“He delivered a good speech on the basis of his experience in the game. The players are now convinced that it’s possible to overturn the 3-0 defeat,” SCVU head coach Morley Byekwaso told New Vision yesterday.

“He referred to some classic examples like Cranes’ fight-back against Congo, where the team won 4-0 after losing the first leg 3-0. It has worked on the confidence levels in the team and the players cannot wait for Sunday,” Byekwaso added.

SCVU will have to win by four clear goals in the return leg to guarantee progress to the next round of the tournament.

That and a 3-0 win for SCVU which could also secure a penalty shoot-out is also possible considering that the club has registered similar results in the league this season.

SCVU beat Masaka LC and Vipers 3-1 and 3-0 respectively in the first round.
