Six suspects including two UPDF soldiers, who are facing trial over alleged connection to a coup plot reportedly hatched by Gen. David Tinyefuza aka Sejusa, got stranded in court Wednesday when they were called to the dock without a lawyer.
Gen. Sejusa’s aides, Lance Corporals Grace Nasasira and Geoffrey Karuhanga, Abel Twinamasiko (army deserter), Frank Ninsiima (army deserter), James Nayebare and Moses Nuwagaba are facing charges of treachery, abating and aiding treason before the army court.
They reportedly recruited soldiers from the Special Forces Command under Gen. Tinyefuza’s instructions to topple President Museveni’s Government.
Their lawyer, Ladislaus Rwakafuuzi was not in court when the suspects were brought to the dock in the General Court Martial in Makindye. The court chairman, Brig. Moses Ssentongo asked them to find out if their lawyer was in court before hearing could begin.
They all looked around to find out if Rwakafuuzi was in court in vain. The suspects asked court to adjourn the matter to find out what had happened to their lawyer. New Vision could not get a comment from Rwakafuuzi because he did not pick his mobile phone.
