News emerging from the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) National Executive Meeting at Najjanankumbi indicates that fiery Aruu County legislator, Odonga Otto, has been dropped as chairman Government Assurances Committee.

In what appears to be a complete overhaul of the leadership of all Parliaments’ oversight committees, only Kasiano Wadri has survived the ‘cull’, with Jack Sabiti and Amuriat Oboi, too, getting replaced.

The new team, according to sources in the ongoing meeting includes; FDC Secretary General, Alice Alaso and Paul Mwiru steering the influential Public Accounts Committee, while Wadri goes to Government Assurances.

Kyadondo East MP, Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda and outgoing Opposition Chief Whip, Winnie Kiiza, have too been appointed to head accountability committees in what is turning out to be an attempt by FDC party president, Gen. Mugisha Muntu, to stamp his authority on a party that is still wallowing in the shadows of its larger than life former leader, Dr. Kiiza Besigye.

Aswa County MP, Reagan Okumu, has been appointed Parliamentary Commissioner, effectively bringing Elijah Okupa’s two-and a half stint to an abrupt end.

Parliamentary rules of procedure obligate the opposition to review its leadership of oversight committees every after two-and-a-half years.
