NATIONAL rugby 7s team coach Tolbert Onyango has handed Heathens’ fullback Philip Wokorach a call-up after an 11-month injury layoff.

Wokorach is on the team that is preparing for the Commonwealth Games and Africa 7s tournaments.

Onyango named the 20-year-old star on his provisional 21-man squad that will later be trimmed to 12 for tournaments in July and September.

Wokorach suffered a fracture on his right leg in March last year during the Nile Special Premier Rugby League game against G4S Pirates at Kyadondo, putting him out of action for months.

He returned to league action last month against Lira Bulls where he scored 16 points in the Heathens’ 151-5 win which impressed Onyango to hand him a national team call-up.

“Yes Tolbert gave us the squad list and Wokorach is included. I think he was impressed by the boy’s performance in the match he played,” Rugby Manager Yayiro Kasasa confirmed the development.

Wokorach was very excited with the news. “This has been my dream and now that I have got the opportunity, I have to work hard and make it to the final squad,” he said.

The team: Jasper Ochen, Ramathan Govule, Justin Kimono, Emma Echudu, Ezekiel Okol, Philip Wokorach, James Ijongat, Alfred Bijik, Allan Otim, Keith Sseruyange, James Odong, Benon Kiiza, Raymond Kasule, Philip Pariyo, Lawrence Ssebuliba, Michael Wokorach, Emanuel Okol and Gabriel Aredo, James Musiitwa and Asuman Mugerwa.
