At least 34% of Ugandan women are unable to access family planning contraceptives. This is according to the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

“Most of Ugandan women especially those in rural areas cannot access modern forms of contraceptives which they want for child spacing,” said Florence Mpabulungi, the team leader population and development UNFPA.

Mpabulungi made the remarks while addressing MPs at the international conference for African Parliamentarians on Population and Development at Lake Victoria Serena Hotel Lweza.

Mpabulungi noted that over 215 women worldwide were unable to access family planning methods due to lack of commitment on family planning contraceptives by respective governments.

She noted that Uganda would hardly achieve its Vision 2014 if challenges such as unemployment and skills development among the youth are not addressed.

Over 70% of Uganda’s population most of whom young people have remained unemployed.
