The opposition and the civil society have launched a campaign detailing amendments they want implemented in the electoral system for a free and fair 2016 general elections.

Among the demands, the consortium wants the current Electoral Commission overhauled and a new, independent and impartial body set up.

They claimed that the current Electoral Commission favours the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).

They also demand for creation of a new, clean, and verifiable voters' register saying “this is an absolute necessity if we are to ensure free and fair elections.”

During the launch of the campaign at the St. Francis Students’ Centre at Makerere University on Monday, the opposition asserted that the current register is flawed.

The launch was attended by the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Party president Gen. Mugisha Muntu, UPC's Dr.  Olara Otunu, Democratic Party’s Norbert Mao among others.
