'I would rather cry in a Benz than laugh on a boda'

SOPHIE Aniku is a presenter on Urban TV. She talked to Carol Kasujja about her private life

You have a rare accent, have you ever lived abroad?

Well, my first recollection of a home was not in Uganda. I have been to California, USA. I used to travel a lot with my father.

Are you in a relationship?

Oh My God! I don’t like talking about my personal life. Just know I am in love with myself and I like it.

Have you ever been in a relationship?

Yes, but do not ask me about it.

What kind of man would you like to take to your parents?

He has to be God-fearing, highly intellectual and who would not want a good-looking man? I want eye candy.

Would you rather cry in a Benz or laugh on a bodaboda?

I know money cannot buy you happiness, but I would rather cry in a Benz and hire a pastor or counsellor in case something goes wrong.

Would you accept to be a rich man’s second wife?

Absolutely not. I believe in the biblical teachings of one man, one wife. A relationship becomes boring when it is too crowded.

Does your job discourage potential suitors?

The job sends away some people. Many people think I am very important, not knowing that I also face challenges like everybody else.

What are your plans for Valentine’s Day?

Oh! I love Valentine’s Day. It is one of the days I look forward to every year. That is the day when people chose not to be mean-spirited. They show love and appreciate one another. 

After work, I will go to a nice restaurant for lunch.

You always seem happy. What has been the worst day of your life?

The day I lost my father. Before that, I had never lost a family member. 

My father was the kind of father every girl would love to have and when he passed away, life changed. I do not want to talk about it.

You seem to have issues with men, any advice to them?

They should cherish the women in their lives because each woman is unique.

How do you handle stalkers?

At first I was afraid of people who liked what I did, but these days I talk to them. 

When someone just sees me or hears about me, he or she would not get the real picture of who I am, but after talking to me, they get the real picture of me and just back off.

Do you believe in sex before marriage?

I do not judge those who choose to have sex before marriage. However, we have seen meaningful relationships without sex.
