RICHARD Mwami has bounced back as the Uganda cricket Association chairman after beating Mukesh Shukla in the elections that took place at the MTN Arena on Saturday evening.

In one of the tightly contested elections, Mwami polled 9 votes while Mukesh managed 7 votes, with both parties promising to work together for the development of the game.

“It is still a very long way to go and in my last term, I want to see to it that we get a ground for cricket, increase the competition in the league by getting better players from more developed countries to be loaned to clubs and also improve on our development programmes,” said Mwami after the polls.

“It was a good election and the winner takes the day. I promise to be more active in cricket so that we work together and see to it that the game develops,” said Mukesh after the elections.

Mwami’s tenure had come to an end with the national team failing to make it to the ICC Division II but the clubs which voted believed that Mwami still had what it took to steer cricket ahead.

Premal Yajnik beat incumbent Amos Kyazze 10-6 to become the new treasurer, while all the other posts were unopposed.

The positions include Ansasira Badu (vice chairman), Jackson Kavuma (secretary), Denis Mussali (organising secretary) and Rita Tinka (women representative).

Each member is supposed to serve for a maximum for two terms.
