Don Bosco v SCVU (Saturday)

UNDER normal circumstances, a CAF Confederations Cup fixture in Lumumbashi would send jitters for any junior tactician.

Surprisingly, that doesn’t seem to be the case with SCVU’s youthful head coach Morley Byekwaso.

And the reasons are clear simple.

Byekwaso is not only pleased to have Cranes tactician Micho Sredojevic among his senior advisers marching into the fixture at the Stade TP Mazembe, among his backroom staff is Nestroy Kizito –one of the surviving members of that historic SC Villa side that registered the last away win on the continent.

Back in 2003, the Blues shocked Angola side AS Aviacao in a 2-1 pulsating victory –an achievement SCVU will try to emulate during their first appearance in continental football.

“It was a memorable game. We put in a lot to achieve that result. African football is complex but I will share some of those experiences with the team here and hopefully it motivates them,” Kizito stated.

The team arrived in Lubumbashi to be greeted by a heavy downpour.

Interestingly, Kizito’s celebrated achievement was under the stewardship of Micho, who is also here in Lumumbashi.

Micho’s knowledge of African football is legendary.

The Serbian has managed clubs in Sudan, Rwanda, Tanzania, South Africa, Uganda and Ethiopia in both domestic and continental engagements.

Suffice it to say, that if there is anybody worth listening to in trying times like this, SCVU will certainly have every right to turn to the Serbian coach.

Although the Cranes coach is in Lumumbashi under a different arrangement, and does not intend to interfere in SCVU’s match-day planning, there could still be that temptation to consult him on a couple of issues before this exciting fixture.
