The Government of Japan has given Uganda a grant totaling sh1.1billion ($416,198) as assistance to grassroots Human security, health and Education.

The project funds target four organizations in four districts of Acholi region of Kitgum, Bushenyi-Ishaka Municipal council, Kyenjojo district and Nakaseke.

The funds will build operation theatres, classrooms blocks in 40schools, 140 beds, 180 mattresses, teacher’s houses, three girls’ dormitories, libraries, water tanks and toilets.

Junzo Fujita, ambassador of Japan to Uganda who signed on behalf of the Japanese government said the funds focuses on improving the health services and Education.

“We will construct a new operation theatre at Bushenyi Health Centre IV, to enable around 5 operations per week in a safe and hygienic environment, thus improving the health service delivery for 73,000 people residing in the area,” he said.

He noted that most classrooms in such area have no windows, furniture and thatched roof which do not provide a learning environment for students. So in order to give students a good learning environment, they are starting with the construction of schools first.

“It is my wish that all the projects will be implemented as planned and that we shall meet again in your respective project sites to celebrate the successful completion of the projects for the benefit of the people in your community,” he said.

During the meeting, the headmistress of Katooke Secondary School, where a girl’s dormitory is going to be constructed said that she is grateful because girls are now going to be kept together and away from men who have been disturbing them on their way to schools and make them pregnant.

“Girls in Kyenjojo move long distances, and along the way they meet men who divert their minds but now that we have a dormitory, they will be able to complete their studies,” she said.
