KCCA FC is in the lead for the first monthly Nile Special/USPA Sports Personality in 2014, as they prepare to launch a continental campaign in the CAF Champions League this weekend.

As the scribes converge at the Lugogo Tennis Complex for their first assembly of the year, KCCA FC is shortlisted for the award after winning the Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar last month.

The team won $10,000 (sh25m) in Zanzibar but they would also be happy with the monthly Nile Special/USPA award that also comes with a cash prize of sh500,000.

KCCA are lined up for the award together with Ugandan female woodball star Lillian Zawedde who won a team silver medal and an individual bronze at the 2014 India International Woodball Championship in January.

The monthly award is given to sports persons or teams, who are deemed by the sports scribes to have excelled in their respective disciplines. It is a way of motivating and promoting sports in the country.

FUFA president Moses Magogo is also expected to address the scribes at today’s assembly.
