As Moses Kipsiro won his sixth national cross-country title on Saturday, his plans of changing to road races further took shape.

“This could be my last year on track,” said the double Commonwealth Games champion after winning the men’s 12 kilometre race in Jinja.

Kipsiro will use this weekend’s national half marathon in Mbale to launch his move into the 21km event.

This puts the athlete in a hectic schedule that could also have him representing Uganda in the Africa Cross-country and World half marathon.

Kipsiro will, 13 days after the Africa event, be competing at the world meet should he make the cut this weekend.

But even as he contemplates shifting to the road, there are all signs that he is still the best cross-country talent in Uganda. This was clearly evident in the big gap between him and Saturday’s men’s runner-up Daniel Rotich.

Team enters camp

Kipsiro will together with the other lead performers from last Saturday races start residential training at a high altitude camp in Kapchorwa.

Assistant UAF secretary Apollo Musherure said besides the top five finishers in each event, more runners could be added to boost training.

The team will be handled by Abdallah Muhammad as head coach assisted by Gordon Ahimbisibwe, Raphael Kasajja and Peter Wemale.
