Members under Uganda Global Alliance Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI) have attained skills in proposal writing for GAVI health system strengthening funding. This is aimed at supporting government programmes effectively.

The technical Advisor Catholic Relief services Brenda Hegarty who trained the team recently said that “we want to make sure that the civil society platforms are involved in the whole process and are able to contribute and support the government,”

Hegarty said Uganda is expected to sign a proposal for GAVI health system strengthening funding this year but in the new round funding civil society’s involvement is a requirement.

Recently GAVI decided that all future funding for health system strengthening has to involve civil society.

Hegarty said in many countries civil societies are providing most of the vaccination services.

The National coordinator Malaria and childhood illnesses NGO network secretariat Dr. Patrobus Mufubenga said the Catholic relief services have built the capacity of civil society to participate in the high level engagement especially on the proposal writing and resource mobilization.

The trainees included those from Uganda Red Cross, African Medical and Research Foundation (AMRAF), Catholic services bureau and Muslim community among others.
