Nasau v Uganda
Kroton v Uganda
Veracles 3 Uganda 1
Donitas 0 Uganda 3
The Uganda women volleyball team is battling chilly weather in Groningen, Netherlands where they are camped for a two-week training stint ahead of the 2014 World championships qualifiers due in Nairobi, Kenya, February 16-23.
The temperatures in the town are expected to drop up to negative five Celsius and head coach Tonny Lakony said that the women were facing it tough to adjust.
“It is very cold now. Temperatures have dropped to negative degrees but the girls are working hard to adjust. Generally the trip is very beneficial to the team and I expect our performance to improve greatly,” Lakony said.
“Although we will remain underdogs to Kenya and Tunisia who have been in such situations several times before, we will be less timid, more confident and very competitive in Nairobi,” he added.
The She Cranes have played three matches so far losing the opening encounter 3-1 to Veracles VC before recovering to beat Donitas VC in straight sets.
A repeat of the match with Donitas on Monday lasted longer than expected and had to end prematurely as the players had to go for gym, spinning, and aerobics conducted by experts at Groningen University.
The team includes: Eunice Nuwabigaba, Milly Laker, Flavia Nandawula, Shilla Omuriwe, Irene Adeke, Saidat Nnungi, Christine Alupo (captain), Esther Tumwebaze, Moreen Mwamula, Eunice Amuron, Josephine Nammanda, Astreede Agaaba (assistant captain), Farida Namajja, Tonny Lakony Peter (head coach), Bart Munting (assistant coach)
