Chimpanzee injures 3 in Masindi

Three people are nursing wounds after they were bitten by a chimpanzee on Saturday morning.


Solomon Babyesiza, 62, John Bazarwa and another unidentified man were injured when they tried to beat a chimpazee in Katama cell, in Masindi Municipality.

Babyesiza who lost his two fingers to a chimp said he was trying to guard his children from being harmed by the animal.

"It was around 11:00am when the animal came into my compound where the children were playing from,” he said.

"I rushed out of the house and tried to grab the animal but it was powerful and wrestled me down and it attacked me," he added.

The chimp ran away but was it was hunted and killed.

"We were seated in the compound when it came. My grand tried to fight it but it over powered him, "said Stephen Tumusiime, 14, a grandson to Babyesiza.

Juma Muhammed, the in charge of Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) Masindi criticised the locals for killing the chimpanzee.
