First Lady Janet Museveni grateful to Sri-Lanka

The First Lady and Karamoja affairs minister, Janet Museveni, has expressed appreciation to the government and people of Sri-Lanka for the support they are extending to the people of Uganda.

She was welcoming Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa, the First Lady of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri-Lanka during a dinner she hosted in her honour.

The dinner at State House Entebbe on Thursday evening was attended by the delegation from Sri-Lanka, ministers, MPs, diplomats senior government officials and members of the UWESO fraternity.

Rajapaksa is in Uganda to lay a foundation stone and unveil the plan for the construction of a vocational training institute at UWESO’s Masuliita Children’s Home, a gift from the Sri-Lankan governement to help uplift the lives of vulnerable children in Uganda.

Mrs. Museveni said that Ugandans value the support and she went on to thank her counterpart for traveling to Uganda to ensure that this gift reaches the rightful people.

She prayed that the few days spent by the visiting First Lady are truly memorable and that she returns another time to be able to visit other parts of Uganda.

The Karamoja affairs minister also paid tribute to all the people who have tirelessly supported UWESO for this noble cause, saying that they will in time be able to see long-lasting fruits which they will be proud of.

In her remarks, the Sri-Lankan First Lady relayed warm regards from the president and people of Sri-Lanka.

She said that the gift of a vocational training institute to be constructed at Masuliita signifies the friendship between Sri-Lanka and Uganda which should continue growing.

She said that back home, she chairs two social activity movements; “Siriliya Saviya” and “Carlton Suva Udana”, which work to uplift and empower rural women in need and assist children with special needs, respectively.

Prior to the dinner, the two First Ladies had a tete-a-tete and discussed matters of mutual and bilateral cooperation.
